Celebrating a Vegan Christmas in Amsterdam
Christmas is almost here! Where to go if you want to eat vegan these days? Check out these events and restaurants to celebrate Christmas vegan style in Amsterdam. For more info about the restaurants and events just click on the links.
1x Dophert’s 5 course French Dinner and Christmas Brunch
Dophert is a 100% vegan eatery in the Spaarndammerstraat, close to Haarlemmerdijk and Westerpark. On the 22nd of December they serve a classic French 5 course vegan Christmas dinner with optional wine pairings from 19:30 -22:30 and on the 23rd a vegan Christmas brunch with a grand buffet from 10:00 till 15:00.
2x Meatless District 5 course Xmas Dinner
This year Meatless District is serving a vegan Christmas Dinner on Christmas eve, 24th of December from 18:00 till 23:00. Expect an evening full of wining and dining while enjoying their 5 course Xmas menu with optional wine pairing. Check out the event here.
3x Mr. Mrs. Watson’s Cheesy December Celebrations
Although they are closed on the actual Christmas dates (24, 25, 26), Mr. & Mrs. Watson are still offering enough holiday season fesivities, serving a vegan 5-course surprise meal every day from the 18th until the 30th of December.
4x Deer Mama’s Boozy Christmas Eve
Have you already paid a visit to the brand new Deer Mama Vegan Milk & Burger Bar? Well, if you haven’t, Christmas eve is the perfect time to give ‘em a go! On Mondays, and on Monday 24th on December as well, Deer Mama organises a Boozy Monday event with cocktails and chamber music. Order cocktail specials for only 5,- and listen to some funky DJ Gadsby tunes, while enjoying some of Deer Mama’s superb burgers!
6x Ruigoord Ruige Kerstmarkt
The 15th and 16th of December the artist village Ruigoord will be transformed into a Christmas Winter Wonder market with over 50 stands offering gluhwine, music, kids activities, workshops and vegan food stands! Entrance is free.
7x Delicious Deshima’s Macrobiotic Christmas Presentation
In this cooking presentation at Delicious Deshima, Valentina Nelissen will show you how to make a vegan macrobiotic Christmas menu yourself, so you don’t have to stress out over what you should serve your guests this Christmas.
Remember Spingaren? This charcuterie annex restaurant offers a separate vegan menu. Good for us it’s open all Christmas days, serving a 4 course vegan dinner! There are non-vegan menus as well, in case you are with a group with mixed preferences. On the 25th they even serve a Christmas lunch and for the little ones there’s a kids show with a magician. 9x Morris & Bella
At Morris & Bella in the ‘Spaarndammerbuurt’ they serve the most wonderfull eye pleasing plates which makes this place very Christmas dinner worthy! Also perfect for mixed companies of omnivores, vega’s and vegans because the base of their menu is plantbased and can be supplemented with cheese, fish or meat. Luckily for us they are open all Christmas days!
10x Odessa Concious Kerstmis
How about making a little Afrostatic dance and enjoying an African vegan buffet on the Odessa ship? Conscious Kerstmis at Odessa is a hippiesque event on first Christmas day, 25th of December, including the option to relax in a hot tub or sauna, an African vegan buffet and lots of dancing on African live music! It’s all about celebrating Christmas consciously.
11x Yerba’s Christmas Eve
When Parool’s dreaded food columnist Hiske Versprille rates a restaurant with a 9-, you know you can expect some exciting haute cuisine. Yerba is a plant-based restaurant for fine dining and what better time to try this out than on Christmas Eve! Open on the 24th of December (closed on the 25th and 26th).
12x Restaurant Moer’s 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, 7- course lunch and dinner
This biological restaurant in Amsterdam South introduced their new separate vegan menu a few months ago. And for Christmas you can even enjoy up to a 7 course vegan Christmas dinner at Moer! More course lunches are served as well. And there are meat and fish menu’s for your non vegan friends. Open all Christmas days.
13x Saravana Bhavan
Craving some Indian flavours for Christmas? Or looking for a more budget friendly Christmas lunch or dinner? Then consider spending one of your Christmas holidays at Saravana Bhavan. This vegetarian restuarant with loads of vegan options might not be the most romantic restaurant out there, but you can definitely get a great varied Indian meal for a small price. Open on both Christmas days and Christmas Eve! Check out their menu.
14x Men Impossible
This oneis for all the ramen fans out there! Men Impossible is the first 100% vegan ramen restaurant in the Netherlands, located in ‘De Jordaan’. Besides the fact they’re vegan, they serve only biological ingredients and are 99.9% gluten free. You can get a full Japenese 3 course menu including tea for only €25,-, so it’s very budget friendly as well. Men Impossible is opened on the 26th of December (closed on the 24th and 25th).
15x Vredesdienst voor Dieren
December 22nd there will be a special service in the Nassau church in Amsterdam West: A peace service for the animals. This service with a humanitarian character is a call to celebrate a meatless Christmas. There will be several speaches and afterwards at 19:00 you can enjoy a vegan and organic 3 course meal for only 10 euros! Check out more info about Vredesdienst voor Dieren.
Bonus! x Hortus by Night
Like last year, Amsterdam’s botanical garden will be opened at night during the Christmas holiday season. Take a walk through the lush illuminated greenery of the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, drink some glühwein at the campfire or take a guided tour to explore the garden’s night life. Entrance is just €5,-. Hortus by Night is closed on the actual Christmas days, but opened on 20 till 23 December, 27 till 29 December and 3 till 5 January.
