The Vegan Menu at De Peper
De Peper ’s menu differs every day, so it’s always a surprise what’s cooking in the kitchen. First course is usually a soup, for example a pumpkin/orange/ginger or a broccoli soup. For the main course at De Peper you really never know what to expect; it can either be tempura, Polish Pierogi, roasted veggies with tahin and quinoa, beans and paddo’s with brown rice, a bean stew in red wine with schnitzel, or even vegan sushi!
And while the menu can go all directions, food is usually simple though creative, super fresh, tasty and really filling! It might not be the kind of dishes you’re used to getting served in a restaurant, but that’s exactly the point: De Peper is not a restaurant but a ‘Voku’! You’re asked to take your plate to the kitchen after dinner, which actually emphasises the home-y feeling. There’s a cosy vibe, like a student house living with a big wooden bar, some second-hand furniture and a little stage where live music is performed by voluntary musicians. Don’t expect fancy made-up tables or table service, De Peper is a no-nonsense place. This is how they can keep their prices as low as possible, letting folks with a budget enjoy delicious vegan food as well. You can decide yourself how much you pay (between €7-10) and additional dessert is only €1,50!
